Adding links to external materials – such as websites, company videos, and online forms – to your Crescendo content is a vital and frequently used feature. Links allow users to access any online resource directly from Crescendo, browse it just as they would a document and then return to Crescendo when finished.
This can be especially useful for video content. Multiple large video files can take up significant storage space on your device, so streaming videos via platforms like YouTube or Vimeo may be a better option.
Adding Links in Crescendo
To add a link in Crescendo, you need to place a link file in your Crescendo content folder.
Some cloud storage providers allow you to create such file directly from their user interface:
• In Box, create new Box Bookmark
• In SharePoint and OneDrive, use create New → Link.
Other providers like Google Drive or Salesforce require that you manually upload previously created .url file.
To create a .url file use our Link File Generator or create a link file on your computer.
Use Web View buttons
For some links, consider using Web View buttons for quick access. Learn more in this article.
Adding a custom icon for your link
By default, your links (or Box Bookmarks) will display a standard link icon. However, you may prefer to use a custom icon that aligns with your folder icons and the overall look and feel of your theme.
To assign a custom icon to a link or bookmark file, place your custom icon file in the same folder as the bookmark or link and name it according to the following convention:
<filename>.<extension>-icon@2x.png
<bookmark name>-icon@2x.png
Creating Link Files on Your Desktop
You can easily create or edit a .url file in any simple text editor (like TextEdit, Sublime Text, etc.) having only two lines (replace your_url with actual address):
[InternetShortcut]
URL=https://your_url
On Windows you can also create .url file using the built-in shortcut feature:
1. Right-click on your desktop or inside any folder.
2. Select New > Shortcut.
3. Enter a name and the URL.
Upload it to your cloud storage and sync Crescendo.
